Chettles Yard
Chettles Yard
Situated on the old Radford goods yard site, this 10 acre brown field site has sat derelict for years. Extensive geotechnical and environmental investigations were required to bring about an optimum solution for the site´s redevelopment. By using naturally occurring microbes to remove toxic chemicals from the ground no spoil was removed from site.
The extensive landscaping and infrastructure works provides dedicated access to the employment units and the seven contemporary multi-storey accommodation blocks providing a student village of more than 1000 bedrooms.
Having delivered the first phase store and business units, phase 2 delivered an additional 300 student bedroom block in June 2009. Works have now completed on Phase 3.
The scheme utilised pre-fabricated bathrooms to speed up construction and incorporated a number of green features such as rainwater harvesting and bio mass boilers burning woodchips locally sourced from young willow tree plantations.
