OCON’S COMMERCIAL DIRECTOR TAKES TO THE HILLS FOR CHARITY AND RAISED £3,500
Ocon’s commercial director, Rob Bratt swapped his high vis jacket and hard hat for walking boots and waterproofs to join a team of his colleagues from Ocon’s parent company, Opal Property Group, for the gruelling 25 mile challenge. Over the space of just 24 hours, the team climbed Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in the Lake District and Snowdon in South Wales, travelling a total of 450 miles between the mountains and climbing a total of 10,000 ft.
A keen walker, Rob has completed the Three Peaks Challenge on previous occasions but this is the first time he has taken it on as part of a team from Ocon and Opal. He has so far managed to raise over £600 for the Opal Foundation and over £3,000 for his chosen charity, the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital (RMCH). The Opal Foundation is a charity established by Opal Property Group that raises funds to support underprivileged children in the UK and Africa. The funds raised by the Three Peaks Challenge team will contribute to the foundation’s bid to raise £35,000 for a clean water and sanitation system in the Kechene slum in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The RMCH charity provides specialist healthcare services for children and young people throughout the North West.
Comments Rob: “There is no doubt that the Three Peaks Challenge is gruelling and exhausting but knowing that you’ll have a warm bath and a comfortable bed to get back to puts things into perspective when you consider the hardships faced by the people we’ve set out to help. The challenge is also a great team-building exercise and helps each individual really see what they are made of. It’s an extremely rewarding experience and we’re delighted that so many people have been so generous in supporting us.”
The Three Peaks Challenge is just one of a series of charity events involving Ocon over the coming months. Further fundraising events are being arranged by the Opal Foundation and further information is available at www.opal-foundation.com.
